Say What the Adjustment Was

Correcting an account balance no longer files an anonymous "Manual Balance Adjustment". You can say what the money actually went to, file it under a category, and count it against the month's envelope — so the gap between what you logged and what you spent stops being a mystery.

Balance Adjustments
  • Say what it was. An optional description replaces the generic label, so a reconciliation reads like the thing that actually happened. Leave it blank and it stays 'Manual Balance Adjustment'.
  • File it properly. Pick a category and the adjustment lands in your reports where it belongs instead of pooling in 'Initial Balance/Adjustment'. The list follows the direction of the change — income categories when the balance goes up, expense categories when it goes down.
  • Count it against a budget. Cash you spent but never logged can now consume the envelope it really came from, so the remaining amount reflects reality. Choosing a budget fills in its category for you.
  • Errors come back to you. The dialog now shows what went wrong instead of failing quietly.
Under the Hood
  • Tithe and emergency fund stay out of it. Reconciling a balance never triggers those transfers, even when you file the adjustment under a real income category.
  • A budget can only take what belongs to it. Adjustments are checked against the account, the category and the envelope before anything is written.
  • Faster account pages. The ledger no longer loads every budgeted expense just to draw a dropdown.
